OLD-TIMERS
11.10.2018Old trucks have their charm. And what used to work, now, having become history, looks like it didn’t look even when it came off the assembly line. In Europe, in the last decade, an interest in antiquity, running along the roads of the socialist camp, and in the very rare trucks of famous brands, unexpectedly awoke. Here are some of them and I want to tell.
The first exhibit SKODA MTS 24. To us in the USSR dump trucks were not delivered. We had a 706 RTO tractor unit with an ORLICAN semi-trailer. Drivers rated the power, reliability and comfort. Such a machine remained forever in the remarkable film "Prisoner of the Caucasus."
IFA W 50L also worked on the roads of our country. There were many options. Mostly with special bodies. But the complexity of the design and the lack of spare parts made life difficult for the Soviet drivers.
This dump truck also left its mark on our history. And, although here it passes under the brand name IVECO 33-30, we know it as MAGIRUS. It was these dump trucks with a diesel engine of air cooling that helped pave the way at the construction site of the century - the Baikal-Amur Mainline.
Polish JELCZ 326 K is a typical representative of the main truck of the social camp. The main units were licensed. After mastering, they were used for a very long time. And it turned out that by the beginning of the 90s they were very outdated. And, as soon as they lifted the “iron curtain”, no one needed these machines.
It would seem where the bus. But this IKARUS 31 - the first of a large family of Hungarian buses, which began to carry passengers in the vast Soviet Union. Against the background of the ZIL 158 it was a bus from the future.
Another amazing car is the FORD TAUNUS Transit. Looking at this miniature truck, I can’t even believe that it is the progenitor of the huge family of commercial vehicles that run today in all corners of the globe.
BORGWARD B 4500 - a good car is not very lucky person. Carl Borgward was a cool designer who created many interesting and unusual cars and trucks. But in the early 60s of the last century there was a raider seizure of his company, and cars became history.
And finally, the BUSSING FD6VGL is the first European long-range truck without power steering with mechanical brakes and a 100 hp engine. Strong guys sat behind the wheel of these cars, and it was they who began to transport cargo all over Germany along the motorways that appeared.
